For Words of Wisdom Wednesday we’re going to briefly describe the benefits of interval training, or what many of you have been doing at the gym lately. One form of interval training we do is called ‘EMOM’ (stands for ‘every minute on the minute’ giving you one or a few moves to complete as fast as you can in that minute, remaining time is spent resting). A lot of workouts people do are moderate and steady (like running a few miles around the neighborhood, or spending an hour on the elliptical) which does improve our aerobic capacity. It does not however burn a large amount of body fat or encourage weight loss. There have been studies conducted that people who engage in interval training burn more fat in a shorter amount time. Short bursts of effort like during an EMOM -increasing your breathing and heart rate and then giving your self rest will increase your bodies ability to burn fat. This type of training burns more abdominal fat than any other type of exercise. So what happens after the workout? Fat oxidation continues to burn post workout while the body raises the level of growth hormone. An example workout would be..
