Want to be able to improve the function of your body? Self myofascial release or what it’s commonly known as as foam rolling can help with that. With a foam roller it can improve flexibility, performance, and reduce your chances of injury. So to understand a little more about how it works is we all are made up of what’s called a kinetic chain. The kinetic chain is made up of muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, nerves, joints, and lastly the central nervous system. Everything┬ámust sync together to work efficiently. In not, this is where injuries can happen. There are two receptors located in muscle tissues. They are the muscle spindles and the Golgi tendon organ (GTO). The muscle spindles record the changes in muscle length and the Golgi tendon organ once stretched past a certain threshold decreases muscle spindles activity and muscular tension. So when you message your muscle with a foam roller, it decreases pain and restores your muscle back to proper function and length. Something to think about next time your foam rolling.
